The Mac M1 and M2 seem to mysteriously stop working with version 8.16.8 and the only fix I have found is to roll back the version to 8.8.5. Try this fix and see if, by deleting the latest version and installing version 8.8.5 it helps. Until an update is made with the newest version, this is the only fix that worked for me. The older versions are not as stable but it might get you what you need for now.
